9/13/2023 0 Comments Best macbook for home studio![]() Interestingly, when I was stress-testing the laptop, I did notice that once the laptop got hot for a while, the CPU power would be slightly throttled. The M2 MBA has no active cooling system, so you will NEVER run into a noisy fan situation. Keep in mind I mix into a full-fledged mastering chain (standard practice in the metal niche), so my projects are usually very taxing on the CPU. The M2 MBA certainly didn't show any signs of struggle when running a project of mine that had 230+ tracks, 270 plugins and complex routing. ![]() In my case, my studio offers exclusively remote mixing and mastering services professionally, I don’t do any recording, composing or producing. Of course, everyone’s use case is different, so you can’t just take this answer and assume the computer is also powerful enough for you. The short answer is that goddamn, the M2 MBA could handle all my big mixing and mastering projects with extra power to spare. It has been such a great experience, that when Apple released the M2 MacBook Air, I decided to buy a base model (8GB RAM + 256GB SSD) and see if I can run my studio on it, and how it compared to the M1 Max.
